What Music Inspires You?

Music is undeniably a universal language. There have always been variable opinions on which music is “better” than another, but the reality is everyone is inspired by different types of music.

Were it not for music, we might in these days say, the Beautiful is dead. ~Benjamin Disraeli

For me personally, I’m inspired by extremely different types of music depending on what I’m doing. If I am designing something for example, I tend to listen to pianist David Nevue, the Irish music of Loreena Mckennitt, movie soundtracks, and pure instrumentals. When I’m coding or developing something, It’s a completely different story; Stuff like Ensifirum, Amon Amarth, and Children of Bodom blast my headphones. In Flames, Opeth, and Nightwish just to name a few more.

What I want to ask is what music inspires your creativity and why?

Ha. Love this topic. I am usually designing (not much code) ….but i get away for the world and bang out my designs the these tunes.

    1. Metal (Impending Doom, August Burns Red, Lamb of God & the Like)

    2. Reggaae (steel pulse, the marley fam, or lee scratchy)

    3. Underground Hip Hop (eyedea, aesop rock, slug, p.o.s.)

    Hmmm…good question!

    1. When I’m brainstorming the possibilities: pop folk i.e. The Decemberists, His Orchestra

    2. When I’m cranking out comps: oldies, i.e. Elvis, The Platters, The Eagles, CCR

    3. When it gets rough: hip-hop and screamo (embarassing, really!!), i.e. Jay-Z, Kanye, Common, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Thursday, Finch, Bootie LA/SF mashups

    4. When I’m turning a pretty picture into a clickable Web site: Robert Miles (if there are too many words I get confused when I’m sifting through HTML, CSS, my FTP, etc)

As of late I’ve been incorporating a lot of Michael Jackson…you never know what you had until it’s gone!

    :o )

Love this, My problem is that I love so much music it’s hard to say. I guess it all depends on what I am working on. I will listen to different things with difderent projects or different moods I may be in.

thanks for the impute everyone! I think what everyone can agree on is that listening to music while designing or developing helps us bring our creative thoughts together. I can’t stand not listening to anything when I’m designing.

I’ve got a lot of different Music interests.

Everything from Pink Floyd to Staind to Joell Ortiz/Slaughterhouse.

I guess it all depends on the mood I’m in at the time.

Dear Casey, I didn’t read this post yet, but wanted to tell you something and have it be public.

Because you told me tables were stupid and CSS was the way to do everything, and I listened and started learning CSS my webdesign capabilities have grown exponentially, and it’s even helping me figure out how to customize things such as ZenPhoto and Wordpress. I’m eternally grateful.

    Thanks Buddy

Also, I only listen to heart of a dragon by dragonforce on repeat for EVERYTHING.

Working Out, Web Design, Setting “The Mood”, Dancing, Driving, Slaying Dragons… The list goes on and on.
