Good point Mike.

It's good to use CSS when it comes to the actual layout of the website. For one it's much less code, you can change the size of the layout with one style, as oppose to changing each and every page as would a table, and it's much easier when dealing with php when you can break up the site into sections or divs.

Tables are really useful when it comes to a staggering amount of content, or when you're facing a time crunch.

Thanks for the input Mike

I wouldn't say that using tables are a bad thing.

However, there is a time and place for it. I remember back in day when websites would load images from a massive table... it took a long time and the images loaded in sections. CSS can optimize load times (even though we do have faster internet nowadays) , and everything that you can do in a table can be done with CSS.

But... I would say using tables to display text data with countless mind-numbing columns and rows would be okay. You will not have margin and floating issues in IE, and it is just faster.

Also, the developers I work with sometimes ask that the information be displayed using a table for exporting purposes.
